Depression is a serious, albeit often overlooked, mental condition. Although many of us face days when we are sad, tired, and lonely, depression causes these symptoms on a more constant basis for those that are affected. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) cites that over 18% of American citizens suffer from depression. In Los Angeles, there are many possible depression treatments available - from natural solutions, such as changes in diet and sleep patterns, to clinical solutions, such as depression medication and talk therapy. However, many of those suffering from treatment-resistant depression, where depression symptoms do not lessen or disappear regardless of the treatments attempted... Read more

DEEP TRANSCRANIAL MAGNETIC STIMULATION
Leave depression behind and start again with Brainsway Deep TMS, a unique safe non-invasive and highly effective treatment. Deep TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) activates deep brain regions which are responsible for depression, generating significant improvement for patients, including those who tried several cycles of antidepressants. Brainsway Deep TMS is a treatment that does not require any hospitalization or anesthesia, and does not entail any memory loss or systemic side effects. Deep TMS requires 20 brief daily sessions, 20 minutes each, over a period of four to five weeks.
In each session, the patient is seated comfortably in a chair, and a padded helmet is gently placed on the patient’s head. A unique patented coil within the helmet creates brief magnetic fields, similar to those used in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). The magnetic fields briefly stimulate the brain area. After each session, the patient returns home independently and resumes his/her daily routine.
Side Effects: Deep TMS has no relationship to ECT (Electroconvulsive Treatment). Deep TMS does not cause memory impairment, nor require a hospital setting, anesthesia, or restraints. The vast majority of patients tolerate each session without any difficulty.
Patients with most medical conditions are eligible for treatment. Certain conditions require individual evaluation.
Because smoking tobacco is a deadly habit, there’s no shortage of products and methods available to kick the habit. From patches, nicotine gum, and medications to inhalers, nicotine nasal sprays and even laser therapy, smokers have a wide variety of cessation products from which to choose. A relatively new approach that is…
E-cigarettes are marketed as being a safer alternative to smoking tobacco cigarettes. Their makers tout that because e-cigarettes contain no tobacco, tar or other toxins associated with tobacco smoking, your chances of experiencing any of the dangers associated with tobacco smoking are slim. Let’s see if that’s true. Are E-Cigarettes Safe? Because…
Recently, a new therapeutic technology known as deep transcranial magnetic stimulation (deep TMS) has been put on the market. It is a brain therapy, in which magnetic fields are used to manipulate activity at the cellular level. By doing this, imbalances in cellular activity can be rectified, thereby eliminating unwanted symptoms. Deep…
Deep transcranial magnetic stimulation (dTMS) is among the newest forms of non-invasive brain therapy. During treatment, patients undergo administration of electromagnetic pulses to the brain. The theory behind this practice is that cellular activity imbalance in the brain can lead to certain conditions; the electromagnetic pulses are used to help restore this…
Deep transcranial magnetic stimulation (deep TMS) therapy is a newer technique that was constructed by Brainsway in 2007. Treatment works by exciting or inhibiting activity in the brain, which acts to restore neural balance and alleviate negative effects. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation is a similar, older treatment option, which works in the…
Most people are aware that there is a medical ailment called depression, but not many know that there are different types of depression. By identifying criteria and specific symptoms of depression, medical professionals are able to provide better care to treat the specificities of each case. In this article we will be…
